60 PERCENT OF THE 1ST DISTRICT VOTERS ARE NOT DEMOCRATS As I campaign throughout Connecticut's First Congressional District I am often asked about the myth that the First District is so overwhelmingly Democratic that it is impossible for any other party to win. I respond with facts: voter registration statistics. There are approximately 389,000 registered voters in the First Congressional District – Independent voters rule with 161,000 registered voters and when combined with the 72,000 active Republicans we have an insurmountable 233,000 potential votes that far outnumber registered Democrats' 156,000. In the last district election 272,000 votes were cast in the 1st District. After assigning a 7 percent increase in voter turnout to account for population increases and interest in the presidential race, we will need approximately146,000 votes to take the district. We need 70 percent of likely GOP voters to vote for me, Joe Visconti. 50,400 votes. Next we need to convince an even half of the independent voters that it really is time to throw out career politicians like John Larson from Congress which will net 80,663 votes. Finally we need only 10 percent of Dems who are fed up with their Party and John Larson to cap the drive, 15,600 votes. Total 146,663 We win! It can be done! But we need your help. We must get our message across to all voters! Your donation to Visconti for Congress is vital to help us communicate with district voters.
